About the project
On top of the traditional DevOps benefits, Pillars SHE is focusing on large scale systems, aiming to provide high reliability and extreme scalability in operations, while also enabling quick iterations.
Mission
Pillars SRE is set to build a culture of reducing organizational silos, accepting failure as normal, and implementing gradual change for continuous improvement in systems. As a design team, we were focused on reflecting these values in a visual manner that would cater to both the users and the industry pros.

Design philosophy
A competitive business environment of today puts pressure on technological infrastructure of online platforms. At the same time that type of work remains in the shadows compared to web design and development. Our idea was to ride that mysterious wave and create a design direction that would exude confidence, complexity, and reverence.

Brand identity system
Design philosophy attributed to the Pillars project gave us a clear understanding of how to reflect the abstract and invisible nature of the SRE practices and where exactly to put the Pillars brand.

Fonts & colors
We found inspiration in the sci-fi stylistic but made it lighter, without a direct connection to hardware, materials, and physics. We have created a language that could flexibly reflect a lot of concepts but keep it all under one roof.
The typefaces selected are minimal and digit-friendly which makes the majority of content produced by Pillars in form of reports legible and recognizable. The color palette is solid and agnostic of the environment, working equally good with dark and light backgrounds.

Logo, wordmark, and brand visuals
The logo consists of the main wordmark and a sub symbol. Both are based on a simple yet powerful metaphor of solid technological pillars holding the foundation of any successful online platform. There are pillars are in the middle of the word pillars. The two available 24/7 trained devops and SRE pros represent pillars themselves. This graphical motif became central for the branding.

3D illustrations
The concept of pillars is self-explanatory and when it came to defining an illustration style for the website graphics, it was obvious that heavy-duty construction-based objects would work great.

Brand collateral
Several experiments tested the brand identity and revealed what type of strong presence we could rely on when creating merch for the Pillars clients and employees.

Website design
The website is the main tool to not only present Pillars as a vendor, but also SRE as an industry. A lot of business owners have a hard time figuring out whether or not their infrastructure is reliable and how much they are losing on short streaks of downtime. We designed the website to promote the SRE culture, help people learn about the methods to foster stability, and even made a tool to help evaluate whether or not SRE is required for a particular buiness.

Outcome
Pillars turned out to be one of the best visually present SRE/DevOps brand on the market, shedding light on the practice of proactive engagement as opposed to crisis solving.

Producer comment
Pillars is a grassroots venture of our DevOps friends that we were happy to be a part of. Learning their approach, their daily grind, their vision, and then giving it all a visual form was beyond exciting.Moses KimCreative Producer
